US Department of Justice to investigate Tesla Autopilot system

The US Department of Justice is conducting an investigation into Tesla’s Autopilot system to see if Tesla’s claims about the reliability of its driver assistance systems could leave drivers with a false sense of security.

Tesla has received requests from the Department of Justice for documents relating to Tesla’s Autopilot and FSD (full self driving) features. CEO of Tesla Elon Musk said that Tesla cars currently only offer driving assistance that can help drivers to change lanes or identify stop signs. It does not offer full autonomy and allow drivers to look away from the road. He also stated that a fully autonomous car will be launched soon.
The National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman told reporters that the use of ”full self driving” is misleading.
