The Uttar Pradesh Police has issued an apology to Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi after the Congress General Secretary was manhandled in Hathras. They have also ordered an inquiry into the incident. The DCP head quarters has taken a suo moto cognizance of the matter and ordered an inquiry to be conducted by a senior lady officer.
Both Priyanka and Rahul met the family of the Hathras victim. The dalit woman was gang-raped by four men and passed away at Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital on the 29 September. The family of the victim said that the Hathras District Magistrate had meted out the worst treatment to them. Priyanka demanded the removal of the district magistrate and asked for a probe into his role in the matter. She also assured the family of the victim that the party will fight till justice is delivered. Meanwhile all the four accused have been arrested.
