UK First Lady offers a peek into life at 10 Downing Street

Akshata Murthy, Wife of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has plans to make 10 Downing Street a more accessible place during her tenure as UK First Lady. Akshata wants to open up the staterooms to let the public understand the history of the building and its significance. She is planning to have more events and meetings and will be different from the closed style of her predecessor -Boris Johnson’s wife Carrie Johnson.


Challis Interiors in Richmond, Yorkshire, was selected by the Sunak family to do the interiors of their home. John Challis, interior designer stated that they have made long interlined curtains for all windows overlooking the garden, they were hand-pleated and held back with heavy coordinating tassels in red and gold. Akshata got involved in the refurbishment and did not hesitate to lend a helping hand.
