Tsunami anniversary observed

The fishing hamlets observed the anniversary of the 2004 tsunami with fishermen remaining onshore as a mark of respect to the departed souls. They offered flowers and milk to the sea. They also took out silent processions and distributed food to the community.
The Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar also participated in the remembrance ceremony held in Kasimedu. Around 8,800 people lost their lives due to the tsunami in Tamilnadu. The Minister assured the fishermen that their interests would not be affected in any manner. At Nochikuppam,  a ceremony was held and a minute of silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
