Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin handed over a letter to President Draupadi Murmu asking her to give assent to the State’s anti-NEET bill when he met her at the airport yesterday.

The Tamil Nadu Admission to Under Graduate Medical Degree Courses Bill, 2021 passed in September 2021 was returned by Governor RN Ravi later that year.
The bill was reintroduced and adopted by the Assembly in February 2022 and sent to the Governor again for forwarding the same to get Presidential assent.
However, till date, assent to the Bill has not been provided. Due to this inordinate delay, many deserving candidates could not get medical admissions as they could not afford costly coaching facilities. Moreover, many lives were lost to suicides every year.
The CM therefore requested the President for her immediate intervention and to give assent to the Bill at the earliest.
