The Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu Prisons and Correctional Services, Amaraesh Pujari visited Puzhal Prison and sat on the floor to have lunch along with the inmates of the prison on Thursday.
He also listened to the grievances of the prisoners, discussed welfare measures for them and also the steps to be taken for modernisation of prisons. According to reports, this is the first time that the head of a prison has had his meal along with the convicts.
The Central Prison near the Madras Medical College that is more than 160 years old was closed down and demolished about a decade ago. The prison is now shifted to a sprawling campus in Puzhal on the outskirts of the city and is called Puzhal Central Prison.
