Sunil Mittal, the founder and chairman of Bharti Enterprises was conferred an honorary knighthood by King Charles III. The 66 year old businessman is the first Indian to receive this honour from King Charles.

This is one of the highest honours conferred by a British monarch. Mittal said that he was deeply humbled to receive this recognition from King Charles III. He also thanked the government of the UK for their support in making the country an attractive investment destination.
The KBE is conferred for a pre-eminent contribution to any field of activity to foreign nationals in an honorary capacity. The people of the UK get the title of Sir or Dame while non-UK nationals get the honour of KBE or DBE after their name.
Indians who received this title earlier are Ratan Tata in 2009. Ravi Shankar in 2001 and Jamshed Irani in 1997. They were conferred the honour by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
