Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced that all students of classes 9,10 and 11 will be declared all pass for the current academic year. They will be promoted without holding any examinations. There will not be any annual or board exams this year. This suo moto announcement was made by the Chief Minister in the Assembly under Rule 110.
This decision was made due to the extraordinary situation faced by students and teachers this year and due to the requests of the parents and also taking into consideration the views of the academicians. The government would release guidelines in detail for the assessment of marks.

Students had to learn through the state run Kalvi TV throughout the year. Due to the difficulties faced by them in learning through television and web portals, the government reduced the curriculum this year. The state government reopened classes 10 and 12 on January 19 this year after shutting down schools in March last year following the total lockdown announced by the Central Government. Vitamin and Zinc tablets were distributed to the students to boost their immunity.
