Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan on Tuesday. This is her first stint in the Upper House. She served for 6 terms in the Lok Sabha.

While contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, she announced that it would be the last time that she was contesting in the general elections. She represented Rae Bareli since 2004 and informed the people there that she was not contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls due to health and age issues. The 77 year old leader also hinted that there could be a possible entry of a family member from Rae Bareli.
According to media reports, with Sonia Gandhi stepping away, her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may contest from Rae Bareli.
Some others who were elected unopposed include BJP President JP Nadda and Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and L Murugan.
