Canadian Bert terHart who set sail on a solo journey from British Columbia in October last year has returned home. He was referred to the safest person on the planet as he was without any human contact whatsoever. He sailed for 267 days accompanied by a stuffed seal named Sir Salty.
His trip was a grueling adventure that witnessed treacherous weather, food shortage and extreme isolation. The father of four children was welcomed by friends and family and he was thrust straight away into the realities of life under Covid 19. He is getting used to the world on pause mode with no physical contact, no handshakes and mask wearing. Ironically he is struck by a feeling of loneliness now even though he is surrounded by his family.
