Six people from Tamil Nadu elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha

Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan, former Additional Advocate General and incumbent MP P Wilson, poet Rajathi alias Salma, SR Sivalingam, all backed by the DMK and its allies were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu on Thursday.

Two others from Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK IS Inbadurai and M Dhanapal were also elected unopposed to the Upper House.
B Subramanyam, Returning Officer and  Additional Secretary, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Secretariat, said that as the number of seats for which elections were to be held  and the number of valid nominations were the same, the candidates were declared elected unopposed.
There were a total of 13 nominations and after scrutiny, only 6 were found to be valid. Except for incumbent MP, P.Wilson, all the other candidates will be first-time Rajya Sabha members.
