Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Welfare Association has appealed to actor Dhanush to rename his upcoming film, Karnan, directed by Mari Selvaraj. The association pointed out that Karnan was an iconic titular character played by the legendary actor and that hence, Dhanush should reconsider the title. They said in a statement, “The name Karnan is synonymous with Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji who played the role to such perfection. We heard that you were playing the lead in a film titled Karnan. Though one is allowed to reuse titles of films after completing the required formalities, it’s better to leave some titles untouched.”

The outfit also said that they had appealed to the actor to rename his film Thiruvilayadal back in 2006. Thiruvilayadal had Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan playing Lord Shiva and the film is etched in the hearts and minds of people. “You had heeded to our request and changed the title to Thiruvilayadal Aarambam. The titles of Nadigar Thilagam’s films like Uthamaputhiran, Aandavan Kattalai, and Raja have been reused and we didn’t question the same. But, at the same time, titles like Saraswathi Sabatham, Thiruvilayadal, Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Karnan, Kappalottiya Tamizhan shouldn’t be reused because the films stand out as legendary ones. Hence, we request you to reconsider the decision,” said the association.
