Sindhu created history by becoming the first Indian to win gold at the Badminton World Championship. She defeated arch rival Nozomi Okuhara of Japan 21-7; 21-7 in a match that lasted for just 38 minutes. It may be recalled that Sindhu lost the final against the Japanese in the year 2017.

She retaliated this time and it  was a match that Sindhu dominated from the beginning. She now has one gold, two silver and two bronze medal at the World Championships. Earlier Sai Praneeth won a bronze in the men’s singles category. Sindhu dedicated the gold medal to her mother as it happened to be her mother’s birthday.
