The Supreme Court has passed orders to ease the miseries of the migrant workers who are desperate to reach their homes during this lockdown period. The Court held that buses or trains should not charge them any fares and they should be permitted to travel for free. It also ordered that they be provided with food while they wait to board their respective transportation.
The originating states were  ordered to provide them with food and water at the stations and the Railways were directed to take care of them during the journey. The court further ordered that if any migrant workers were found walking on the roads, they should be taken to shelters and provided with food. Their train fares would have to be borne by the concerned states. The three judge bench posted the matter to June 5th and directed all the States and Union Territories to file a detailed counter giving the total number of migrants and the plans for transportation etc.
