A public interest litigation was filed in the Supreme Court demanding a court monitored probe into the alleged gang rape of a 19 year old Dalit woman who later passed away at a hospital in Delhi.
The Supreme Court has directed the Allahabad High Court to monitor the ongoing investigation of the Hathras gang rape case. The order was passed by a three judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India S. A. Bobde. The Court also heard a batch of petitions that sought a transfer of the trial of the case from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi as many lawyers apprehend that a fair trial is not possible in Uttar Pradesh.
