Salman Rushdie, the Mumbai born author of the novel ‘Midnight’s Children’ will be honored along with 40 others in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Rushdie, 74 years of age, has been named a Companion of Honour, an exclusive club with membership limited to 65 people at any given time for services to literature.

Rushdie is thrilled and said that it is an honour to be included in such an illustrious company.
The Companion of Honour is given to those who have made a major contribution in the field of arts, science, medicine or government over a period of time. Some people who received this honour in the past include former British Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and John Major and renowned physicist Stephen Hawking.
The honours list is annually published to coincide with the Queen’s official birthday celebrations in June.
