Rohan Bopanna becomes World No 1 in doubles tennis

Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna, creates history and has become the oldest player to claim the No1 spot in the men’s doubles rankings at the age of 43. He partnered with Australia’s Matthew Ebden to secure this historic win. The duo defeated Maximo Gonsalez and Andres Molteni from Argentina in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Australian Open.

Both Bopanna and Ebden displayed teamwork and resilience during the match and they will face the unseeded duo of Tomas Machac and Zhizhen Zhang in the semi-finals.
This achievement of Bopanna, surpasses the earlier record of Mike Bryan who was 41 years old. Bopanna expressed happiness at his achievement and said that it will inspire a lot of people all over the world who are 40 and above.
