Durst was a multi-millionaire who was convicted last year for the December 2000 shooting of Susan Berman in her home in Beverly Hills. According to prosecutors, Durst had murdered Susan to prevent her from incriminating him in a renewed police investigation into the disappearance of his wife Kathleen Durst. Kathleen, a medical student, was just 29 years old when she suddenly vanished. Durst told investigators that she had boarded a train to Manhattan to live in their apartment there but she never arrived there.
Durst was the grandson of the founder of a large Manhattan real estate firm. His share in the family fortune is estimated to be around $100 million.
