Located on the lush & picturesque Cenotaph, Ganapathy Colony Road, Design House, Raw Mango launched its first ever Raw Mango store in Chennai that is spread over 5400 sq. ft., the largest space ever for the brand, wholly designed and executed by the in-house team.
The architecture and interior design of the store blends the original Art Deco structure with the design aesthetic of Raw Mango that is minimal, modern Indian. Spread over two floors, Raw Mango’s Chennai store features over 10 rooms, each bearing its own unique design narrative that all come together as a whole, taking into consideration the geography and cultural history of the region.
Speaking about the creative process of designing the new store, Sanjay Garg, says, “like most Raw Mango stores, Chennai store is also designed & built to be a gallery to showcase it’s collections and fanscinations along with the products. It was created inspired by the histories and context of the building yet at the same time, not too burdened by it. Hiding the pockets with rich details inspired by various elements of traditional Tamil architecture, elevating and transforming the place in a subtle manner.”
Speaking about the architecture and structure of the store, Visual Creative Director, Adityan Melekalam says, “The structure and style of the area offered possibilities to build upon creating a space aligning with the design house. The original architecture of the boutique, was built in an Art Deco style which was watered down over the years blending with many other styles leaving behind a compelling mix with original influence becoming less intense and losing its rigidity, allowing new possibilities to come up.”
Raw Mango Chennai store will house the brand’s saris, textiles, garments and objects.
