Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reiterated his innocence before the Supreme Court and has refused to apologise over the Modi surname case. He stated that he is not guilty of the offence and that the order of conviction is unsustainable.

In his affidavit before the Supreme Court, Rahul has stated that efforts were being made to ”arm-twist” him to render an apology. He further stated that ”using criminal process and consequences under the Representation of Peoples Act” to compel an apology was a ”gross abuse of the judicial process.”
Rahul further submitted that ”There is no Modi samaj or community established on record and there are only Modi Vanika Samaj or Modh Ghanchi Samaj existing.”
Rahul was convicted in March this year on a complaint filed by Gujarat BJP MLA Purnesh Ishwarbhai Modi.
