Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was about to be late for her rally at Tezpur, Assam. However, she managed to make it on time by sprinting to the venue. A video has been released which shows Priyanka in a dark maroon saree sprinting down a dusty path surrounded by her bodyguards, who try to catch up with her as they all proceed towards the stage.
There were people on both sides of the fenced pathway who clapped for her as she continued the dash to the pavilion. She responded with a namaste and the crowds waved back at her.
She spoke with women workers at a tea estate and carried a basket on her back to join them in plucking the tea leaves. She also attempted a few steps of a folk dance of the tea tribe. She was gifted with a white saree with a red border that women wear while dancing. Priyanka’s Assam campaign is packed with a tight schedule.
The BJP is trying to win the state again while the Congress and its allies have been campaigning on issues of rights, including the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) which are sensitive subjects in Assam.
Elections in Assam will be held on three separate days in March and April. The state has 126 seats in the legislative assembly.
