R. Praggnanandhaa made the whole country proud after he bagged the silver medal in the 2023 Fide World Cup. He has now earned a spot for himself in the FIDE Candidates Tournament to be held in July 2024 in Toronto.
Despite losing the final to World No 1 Magnus Carlsern, Pragg came in for a lot of praise from all quarters. Upon his return from Baku, he was given a hero’s welcome at the Chennai airport this morning.
The officials from the state sports department received him and fans presented him with flowers, shawls and bouquets. Flowers were strewn on his path and artists performed Karagattam and Oyilattam.Pragg waved the national flag that was offered to him and was extremely happy at the reception accorded to him. His mother Nagalakshmi too was delighted over the grand reception accorded to her son.
