PM Narendra Modi presented Akshata Murthy, wife of UK PM Rishi Sunak with a Banarasi stole during her visit to New Delhi for the G 20 summit. These silk stoles depict the cultural richness of Varanasi and are soft in texture.
The stole was packed in a box made of Kadam wood which is considered to be auspicious in Indian culture. The box was handcrafted by the artisans from Karnataka.
Benarasi stoles are much sought after for their luxurious silk threads and intricate patterns. It is considered to be a prized possession of a woman’s wardrobe. They are mainly used for weddings and special occasions. They can be draped over the shoulders or worn as a head scarf. Their attractive colours and shimmering texture makes them an awesome fashion accessory and it adds to the grace of a woman.
