PM Modi congratulates new PM of Nepal

Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Nepal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him and said that he looks forward to working with him to strengthen ties between India and Nepal. India and Nepal are said to have a deep cultural connection with each other.


Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari appointed Pushpa Kamal Dahal, leader of the parliamentary party of the Communist Party of Nepal as the Prime Minister of Nepal. Pushpa Kamal is better known as ‘Prachanda’ and will be sworn in today. This is the third time that the former Maoist rebel leader will be the Prime Minister of Nepal. He served earlier in 2008-2009 but had to step down due to a political crisis. He again took over in 2016 from Oli when there was an economic blockade of Nepal during 2015 -16 by the Madhesi agitators.
