The Madras High Court has taken on it’s file a Public Interest Litigation filed by a medical practitioner to restrain delivery boys from charging more than the bill amount while delivering LPG cylinders. It has ordered notice to all the major oil companies in the country.
While hearing a PIL from Loganathan of Avadi, Justice M.Satyanarayan and Justice N.Seshasayee, it was brought to their notice that delivery boys demand a sum of RSs 20 to 100 extra money claiming physical strain to carry the cylinders. They pointed out that the bill amount was inclusive of delivery charges but still the consumers were forced to pay this extra amount and that most of the time, either women or old people at home had to bear the brunt as they were intimidated by the delivery boys. The Court sought the response of oil companies and posted the matter to November 7th for filing of counter affidavit.
