Part-time teachers go on strike

Part-time teachers who are handling subjects like physical education, drawing and music in schools have launched an indefinite strike demanding regularisation. A number of teachers have collected at the Directorate of Public Instruction campus at Nungambakkam and are making demands that they be made permanent on a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 20,000/.

They were appointed by the government  in 2012 on a consolidated salary of Rs 5,000/  Their salary has been raised only by Rs 2,700/ and are now paid RS 7,700/ Their demand is that they want to be made permanent and will continue the strike till the Education Minister and the Chief Minister intervene.
