Donald Trump’s first wife Ivana passes away

Ivana Trump, the first wife of Donald Trump and mother of his three eldest children passed away at the age of 73 at her home in New York City. The cause of death is not known.
Donald Trump posted the news on his social media platform Truth Social and said that she was a wonderful, beautiful and amazing woman who led an inspirational life. Her three children are Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric.


Ivana was a model who grew up under communist rule in Czechoslovakia. She married Donald Trump who was a budding real estate developer in 1977. Their first child Donald Jr was born later that year. Daughter Ivanka was born in 1981 and their third child Eric was born in 1984.
The Trump’s were one of New York’s highest profile couples who led an extravagant lifestyle. Their power and celebrity grew as Trump’s property business soared with wife Ivana taking on key roles in the business. They divorced in the early 90’s. Ivana became a succesful businesswoman and author while Donald married Maples in 1993 whom he divorced in 1999 and later married Melania in 2005.

PM Modi to attend first Virtual Summit of the four nation grouping I2U2.

Four leaders- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Israel Prime Minister Yair Lapid and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will participate in the first virtual summit of the four-nation grouping I2U2 this evening.


The group is called I2U2 with I standing for India and Israel and U for the US and the UAE.
The leaders will discuss joint economic projects to bolster economic cooperation under the framework of the coalition. The global food and energy crisis arising out of the Ukraine conflict will also be discussed. They will also discuss ways to strengthen economic partnership in trade and investment. This I2U2 grouping was decided when the foreign ministers of the four countries met in October last year.

Indian origin politician Rishi Sunak tops first poll round

Rishi Sunak topped the first round of elections to decide the next leader of the ruling Conservative Party. The leader will take over the reins of Prime Minister from Boris Johnson in September.


Rishi is the bookmakers’ favourite to win the election. He polled 88 votes to top the list of candidates in the first round. Two candidates who got the least votes and were eliminated from the race are Jeremy Hunt who polled 18 votes and Nadhim Zahawi who polled 25 votes.
Rishi Sunak resigned as chancellor last week and is expected to be one of the last two candidates in the fray. The final two candidates will be decided by July 21 through more rounds to eliminate those with the least votes.
The winner among the last two candidates will be decided through postal votes by over 160,000 members of the party, in a process that will take place in the coming months.

State of emergency declared in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka declared a state of emergency today due to massive protests after President Rajapaksa flew to the Maldives after months of protests against an economic crisis.


An indefinite curfew has been imposed across the Western Province including Colombo to contain the escalating protests. President Rajapaka will be sending in his resignation letter shortly and in the meantime Prime Minister Wickremesinghe has been appointed as the acting President of the country.
President Rajapaksa enjoys immunity from arrest and he fled to the Maldives with his wife and two bodyguards by a military aircraft. On their arrival at the Maldives, they were driven to an undisclosed location under police escort.
The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka has dismissed reports claiming that India helped President Rajapaksa to flee from the country.

Mexican student set on fire by classmates

A 14 year old boy in Mexico was set on fire by his classmates for speaking an indigenous language. Two of his classmates have been accused of pouring alcohol on Juan Zamorano’s seat in the central state of Queretano. Juan realized that his trousers were wet and stood up. At this moment, he was set on fire.


He suffered second and third degree burns and was taking treatment in hospital. Reports say that he has now been discharged from the hospital.
Juan was being bullied in school because of his indigenous Otomi roots. His family had filed complaints against his attackers and against school authorities. It is alleged that even Juan’s teacher is said to have harassed him because of his origin.
An investigation into the attack is being carried out and the perpetrators will face legal proceedings.

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in race to become next British PM

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has entered the race to replace the existing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Liz is one among the 11 candidates in the fray.
She held ministerial jobs in a number of government departments including trade, justice and the treasury. She is seeking to replace Boris Johnson as his government is embroiled in a series of scandals.


Liz is promising to take immediate action to cut taxes and help people to deal with the cost of living. Former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is also in the race. Other candidates are attorney general Suelia Braverman, former health secretary Jeremy Hunt, finance minister Sajid Javid and transport secretary Grant Shapps.

One more convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case moves SC for release

P. Ravichandran, one of the convicts in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case has moved the Supreme Court to be released like his fellow convict AG Perarivalan. He has served 30 years in jail and he has sought interim bail until the case is disposed of.
Ravichandran had earlier approached the Madras High Court for his release but his petition was dismissed on the ground that high courts do not have special powers like the Supreme Court.


Earlier this year, the Supreme Court ordered the release of AG Perarivalan. while six other convicts continue to languish in jail
Ravichandran had also written a letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin seeking the release of the remaining six convicts.

Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone will now become neighbours of actors Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. They have purchased a posh quadruplex sea view apartment for Rs 119 crore in Bandra, Mumbai. It is located on the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th floors of the tower. It has a total carpet area of 11,266 sq feet and a 1,300 sq feet exclusive terrace.This is said to be the most expensive deal for a single residential apartment anywhere in the country. It is located in a lush residential tower Sagar Resham in Bandra.


Their apartment is said to be located between Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments and Shah Rukh’s Mannat Bungalow.
Ranveer and Deepika worked together for the first time in Goliyon Ke Rasleela Ram Leela in 2013. They dated for 6 years and got married in 2018 in Italy.

Vijay Mallya awarded 4 months in jail

The Supreme Court of India has awarded fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya four months of imprisonment and fine of Rs 2,000 for contempt of court. If the fine amount is not deposited on time, he will have to undergo two more months of imprisonment. He was also directed to deposit 40 million USD with interest within four weeks. The concerned authorities have been asked to initiate attachment proceedings in case of his default.


The Supreme Court found the transaction where Vijay Mallya had transferred 40 million USD from the sale of the United Breweries to his children as void and all the money transferred by him had to be returned to the loan recovery officer with interest at 8 percent.
Mallya is an accused in a bank loan default case of over Rs 9,000 crore involving his Kingfisher Airlines. He is currently in the United Kingdom.
