Rahul Gandhi denied relief by Sessions Court

0

Rahul Gandhi has not been given relief by the Sessions Court in Surat and his plea for a stay of the lower court’s order has been rejected.

The Sessions Court heard an appeal filed by Rahul Gandhi seeking stay and suspension of the order of the lower court that convicted him to 2 years in jail in the 2019 defamation case. The Sessions Court heard both sides on April 13 and reserved its verdict for April 20. This morning the Court rejected the plea of Rahul seeking stay and suspension of the order of the lower court.
Had the Sessions Court stayed the conviction, Rahul could have been reinstated in Parliament.
Jairam Ramesh, general secretary of the Congress party said that the party will avail all options that are available under the law.
In his appeal, Rahul had stated that there was no necessity for the court to give him maximum punishment and that the trial was not fair.
However, the Sessions court rejected these contentions.

India to become the world’s most populated country this year

0

According to data released by the United Nations, India is on the way to become the most populated country in the world. It will overtake the population of China with almost 3 million more people by the middle of 2023.

The demographic data from the United Nations Population Fund’s ”State of World Population Report 2023” estimates the population of India at 1,428.6 million against China’s 1,425.7 million.
The report shows the United States in a distant third position with an estimated population of 340 million.
Population experts have used previous data from the UN to predict that India’s population will overtake China but they did not specify a date when this would actually happen. This is probably because of the uncertainty about the data coming from the two countries. The last census was conducted in India in 2011 and the census due in 2021 has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
