More than 11,000 dancers in Assam to attempt Guinness record today

More than 11,000 folk dancers and drummers in Assam will be performing the Bihu dance today with an aim to get a place in the coveted Guinness Book of World Records. Rehearsals are going on at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Assam to celebrate the state’s spring festival called Rongali Bihu. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswas Sharma said that the aim is to ”organise the largest Bihu dance performance at a single venue and make it to the Guinness Book of World Records in the folk-dance category.”
It is stated that 70 percent of the performers will be women and 30 percent men. The performers will include dancers, singers and those playing traditional instruments like dhol, taal, gogona, toka, pepa and xutuli. The performance will be around 15 minutes in duration. The performers were selected from across the state.
