Actress Priyanka Chopra turned 41 yesterday, the 18th of July and her husband Nick Jonas posted a romantic picture with her on Instagram. He wrote ”I Love celebrating you. Happy Birthday my love.” along with a heart emoji.

Many people greeted Priyanka on her birthday. Wishes came from her family, friends and colleagues. Parineeti Chopra, a cousin of Priyanka wished her a happy birthday along with a throwback picture from her engagement ceremony.
Priyanka’s manager Anjula Acharia wrote an extensive note along with her birthday wish.
Many Bollywood celebrities took to social media to wish the actress. Her mother Madhu Chopra shared a happy picture of them together on her Instagram page and wrote ”Happy Birthday Pri.”
Priyanka married Nick Jonas in 2018 and welcomed daughter Malti Marie through surrogacy in January 2022.

TN Education Minister K Ponmudi’s assets frozen by ED

The Enforcement Directorate has frozen assets of around Rs 41.9 crore of fixed deposits of Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K.Ponmudi. Both the Minister and his son Gautam Sigamani were interrogated by the ED in a money laundering cse related to sand-mining.

While Ponmudi is an MLA from the Tirukkoyilur Assembly in Villupuram district, his son is a Member of Parliament and represents Kallakurichi.
The ED carried out search operations in seven locations and it interrogated both father and son on two occasions. The searches revealed cash amounting to 81.7 lakh, foreign currency of British pounds equal to 13 lakh and fixed deposits of around Rs 41.9 crore.
The DMK party considers these raids as part of ”political vendetta” and was being done to divert attention from the mega opposition meet in Bengaluru.

Leaders of 26 Opposition parties meet in Bengaluru

Many leaders from 26 Opposition parties have gathered together in Bengaluru and will meet  to form a front that will take on the ruling BJP in the 2024 general elections. It is likely that Sonia Gandhi who is chairperson of the UPA to be named as the President of the Front.

Some notable persons attending the meeting are Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers MK Stalin, Nitish Kumar, Arvind Kejriwal, Hemant Soren, Mamata Banerjee and RJD chief Lalu Prasad. Sharad Pawar will join in later.
The Front will be named in this meeting and suggestions have been sought from members. The name should have the word ”India” in it. The tagline wll be ”United we Stand.”
Earlier a dinner meeting held at the Taj West End Hotel saw Sonia Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee have a discussion for almost 20 minutes.

Narayana Murthy and wife Sudha donate gold conch and tortoise idol to Tirupati temple

Infosys Chairman Narayana Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy donated a golden Abhisheka Shankam and a golden tortoise idol to Tirumala temple on July 16. They handed it over to TTD ED AV Dharma Reddy at Ranganayakula Mandapam.

The donation is said to weigh around 2 kilograms. The temple routinely receives such costly gifts from devotees and for every donation of Rs 10,000, the temple offers  a VIP -Break Darshan that will enable donors to visit the deity early in the morning and avoid the queue and waiting in the line.
The Thirumala Tirupsti Devasthanam (TTD) has received Rs 880 crore from devotees in the past five years.
Incidentally, Sudha Murthy was a former TTD Trust Board member.

Actress Samantha to take a short break from acting

Actress Samantha has announced that she will take a short break from acting to focus on her healing. She was diagnosed with Myositis, an auto-immune condition last year. She has completed all her pending projects and has taken off on a road trip across Tamil Nadu.

According to the National Health Service UK (NHS), myositis is the name for a group of rare conditions that results in weak, painful and aching muscles. This condition is said to worsen with time.
Samantha’s doctors are confident that she will make a complete recovery soon. She took to social media and shared a cryptic post with a photo of her smiling with the words ”The longest and the hardest six months it has been….Made it to the end.”
Fans are expecting her to be back after a break and are wishing her good health.

Carlos Alcaraz is the new Wimbledon champion

Carlos Alcaraz from Spain has become the new Wimbledon champion after defeating defending champion Novak Djokovic in a battle that went on for over 4 hours. The 20 year old defeated Djokovic 1-6, 7-6,( 8-6,) 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

This is the second Grand Slam title that Carlos has won in his short career. The earlier title he won was at the 2022 US Open.
Spanish King Felipe gave a thumbs up sign from the Royal box as Carlos Alcaraz was being crowned the Wimbledon’s men’s singles champion and was extremely delighted at the 20 year old’s victory.
After the match, Alcaraz stated that King Felipe was his lucky charm and how it was special for him to play before royalty. He also thanked the King for coming over and supporting him.
He later shook hands with the King after his stunning victory Also present at the Royal box were Prince William and Princess Kate who were seen chatting with King Felipe.

Four Indian origin business women have been featured in the Forbes 2023 list. This list is America’s 100 richest self-made women. The four business leaders are Jayshree Ullal, Indira Nooyi, Neha Narkhede and Neerja Sethi.

Jayshree Ullal is the CEO and President of a computer networking firm Arista Networks and is ranked 15th on the list. Jayshree is 62 years old and her company recorded revenue of nearly $ 4.4 billion in 2022.
Neerja Sethi, 68 years of age is ranked 25th on the list. She and her husband Bharat Desai are co-founders of the IT consulting and outsourcing group Syntel. They started this business in 1980. Their net worth is USD 990 million.
Neha Narkhede, 38 years old, is the co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer of cloud company Confluent is ranked 50th on the list. Her net worth is USD 520 million.
Indira Nooyi, 67 years old and the former Chairperson of Pepsico. She is ranked 77th on the list. She retired in 2019 after being with Pepsico for 24 years.She has a net worth of USD 350 million.

First AI news presenter in the South in Kannada news channel

Artificial Intelligence has entered the Indian TV news industry. A kannada channel Power TV has launched South India’s first AI news presenter named Soundarya. The first news show featuring Soundarya was rolled out on Tuesday.

AI has entered each and every field and now has set foot into the TV news industry as well. There are already AI news presenters in some news channels in the North. An Odia TV Channel called OTV launched the state’s first AI news presenter Lisa who rendered flawless presentations in both Odia and English and left people impressed.
Earlier in March, India Today group launched the country’s first AI news presenter named Sana for their Hindi channel called Aaj Tak. This is said to be a very interesting development in Indian TV journalism and it remains to be seen if AI news presenters will take over from human news presenters.

Passengers injured due to turbulent US flight

Some crew and passengers of a US carrier Allegiant Airlines suffered severe injuries and broken bones after a flight from North Carolina to Florida experienced severe turbulence.

The flight was carrying 179 passengers and six crew members out of which four were injured. One flight attendant was flung into the air and later thrown back on the floor of the plane. A passenger who had gone to the toilet before the turbulence started, came out with blood gushing from a huge laceration on right eyebrow.
However, the flight landed normally and medical personnel were waiting to attend to the injured passengers. Two passengers and two flight attendants were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Airlines is carrying out an investigation in coordination with the National Transportation Safety Board.

Saree that costs Rs 21 lakhs made with thread work and pearls

A saree that costs Rs 21 lakhs took around 2 years to make. It has chikankari and thread work, pearls from Japan and Swarovski embellishments.

The saree is so costly as the entire saree is made on the same wire. There is another saree available for a slightly lesser price of Rs 10 lakhs.  A customer from Dubai bought this saree for her wedding. The customer has also placed another order for a similar saree and it is being made.
The saree has chikankari work, fine zari work, pearls from Japan and original Swarovski has been used in it.
This gleaming white saree can be called the royal saree of Lucknow and is being prepared by a designer chikankari studio in Lucknow. The border of the saree itself costs Rs two and a half lakh rupees.

BJP MLA who filed defamation case against Rahul Gandhi files caveat in SC

BJP MLA, Purnesh Modi who filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi has filed a caveat in the Supreme Court. He is seeking to be heard if Rahul files a petition challenging the order of the Gujarat High Court that refused to stay the conviction order of the Sessions Court in the Modi surname remark case.

On July 7, a single judge of the Gujarat High Court dismissed the plea of Rahul Gandhi seeking a stay on his conviction in the defamation case. This is seen as a great setback to Rahul.
Purnesh Modi filed the caveat in the Supreme Court on the same day through his lawyer.
The Congress will move the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict of the Gujarat High Court and alleged that the government is finding new techniques to throttle Rahul’s voice.
