BJP lashes out at Congress as it declines to attend Ram temple event

0

The Bharatiya Janata Party lashed out at the Congress party as it declined the invitation to attend the Ayodhya Ram temple’s  ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony on January 22.

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said ”This is Nehru’s Congress, this is not Gandhi’ s Congress. Mahatma Gandhi used to sing ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ and today Congress is not attending the ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony. This shows Congress is against Hindu religion and Hindutva”.

The Congress has dubbed the ceremony as a BJP/RSS event  and said that though religion is a personal matter, the BJP and the RSS have made a political project of the Ayodhya Ram temple and have done so for electoral gain.
Union Minister Smriti Irani said that the Congress declining the invitation reflects their anti-Sanatan mindset.

0

Bilkis Bano, the lady who survived the most heinous crime in the 2002 Gujarat riots said that it is truly New Year for her after the Supreme Court ruled that the 11 convicts who were released from jail should return to jail.

The 11 men who were responsible for gangraping her and killing her family members will soon be behind bars once again. They. have been given two weeks time to surrender. . The Supreme Court held that the Gujarat government acted without application of mind. The state had no competency to release the men as the trial was held in Maharashtra and not in Gujarat.
Shah Bano is relieved with this order passed by the Supreme Court and said that she wept tears of relief, smiled and hugged her children as she feels that a big weight has been lifted from her chest and she can breathe again. Supreme Court cancels its May 2022 order in the Bilkis Bano case

0

The Supreme Court cancelled an order passed in May 2022 in the Bilkis Bano case passed by Justice Ajay Rastogi , a former judge of the Supreme Court. This order allowed the 11 men who raped Bilkis Bano and murdered her family during the 2002 Godhra riots to appeal to the Gujarat government for early remission.

According to the court, this order was obtained by fraudulent means by suppressing facts. The 11 convicts have been given two weeks time to return to jail.
The convicts were released by the Gujarat government on Independence Day in 2022 on the basis of an obsolete law. The government ordered the release after it consulted a panel that declared the rapists and murderers to be ”sanskari brahmins”. They were released based on a 1992 remission policy that has been superseded by a law barring releases in capital offence cases.

King Charles is facing calls to abdicate the throne

0

Recently, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark had declared that she will abdicate the throne. There have been reports saying that King Charles should follow Denmark’s example.
Moreover, it has been reported that there is some tension brewing between father and son with King Charles hating anyone telling him what to do and Prince William wanting more control. However,  a former Buckingham Palace staffer revealed that this tension is more of a productive rivalry rather than a destructive one as Prince William respects his father’s ”rank” as head of the Firm.

Dog chews up about Rs 3.32 lakh of currency notes

0

Cecil, a pet dog in Pennsylvania totally shocked its owners after it chewed up $4000 (approximately Rs 3.32 lakh). The dog, a 7 year old goldendoodle, found an envelope of money that its owners had set aside and began chewing on it. The shocked owners managed to retrieve most of the cash but found $450 dollars missing.

The owners had kept the money to pay a contractor to install a fence. They took the dog to a veterinarian and were informed that the dog was fine.
The dog was usually well behaved and had not done anything like this earlier but it almost gave the owners a heart attack by chewing up cash.
The owners approached the bank and were told that if the serial numbers on the notes were visible, they would take back the money.

WHEN THE BAR IS RAISED
By Sanjay Pinto

0

A Teller Committee instead of an Election Commission. QR Codes as booth slips. Volunteers from the Bar carefully vetted in lieu of IAS officers as Observers. Local police officials and CISF personnel replacing gun totting para-military forces. Campaigns predominantly through the social media as opposed to blaring loudspeakers and noisy rallies. The recent peaceful conduct of elections for the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) has left behind quite a model code that is worthy of replication.

I have covered several Parliamentary and Assembly Elections and high voltage political campaigns in the country, not to forget violent incidents, court battles and controversies, in my previous avatar as a national television journalist. As a practising Advocate, what I recently witnessed first-hand on the Madras High Court campus, especially in light of the previous complaints of ballot boxes being squirreled away, was more than a breath of fresh air.

Right from the display of the list of eligible voters on the MHAA website in advance to the generation of QR Codes for each voter with the photograph and enrolment number printed, from cross checking Identity Cards and photographs clicked of voters to separate colour coded booths with securely cordoned barricades and indelible ink on the index finger (mine still shows after 3 weeks!) the exercise was seamless, foolproof and left no room for disputes.

The Teller Committee headed by Senior Advocate M.K.Kabir and all the members including Tamil Nadu Bar Council Secretary C.Raja Kumar deserve encomiums. What they pulled off, of course with the cooperation of all the voters and candidates, was nothing short of commendable.

The smallest unsavoury incidents involving a few advocates are often blown out of proportion but such positive developments don’t get their due reportage. These are instances that have the potential to alter public perception of this noble profession.
