British actor Bernard Hill passes away at the age of 79

Bernard Hill, a British actor who acted in ”Titanic” and ”Lord of the Rings”. passed away on Sunday at the age of 79. He played supporting roles in both these films.

His agent Lou Coulson confirmed his death in the early hours of Sunday to British media outlets.
Hill featured in BBC’s 1982 acclaimed drama ”Boys from the Blackstuff”. This drama won multiple awards and is still considered to be one of the best of its genre from the era.
The veteran actor had a distinguished career in films, television and theatre as well.
Fans are mourning the loss of this veteran actor and are paying rich tributes.
He played the character of Captain Edward J Smith, a British sea captain and naval officer in James Cameron’s Titanic and has the distinction of being the only actor to feature in more than one film that won 11 Academy Awards- Titanic and The Lord of the Rings.

Rahul Gandhi to contest from Raebareli

Rahul Gandhi has decided at the last minute that he will contest from Raebareli and not Amethi. The Raebareli seat was vacated by his mother Sonia Gandhi when she moved to the Rajya Sabha recently.

Kishori Lal Sharma, a longtime loyalist of the Gandhi family will contest from Amethi. This decision was taken by the Congress on Friday after weeks of suspense.
Both candidates will file their papers today as it’s the last day for filing nominations for the fifth phase of elections to be held on May 20.
Rahul is expected to hold a roadshow before filing his nomination papers. Kishori Lal Sharma will take on Union Minister Smriti Irani of the BJP. Smriti Irani won the Amethi seat in 2019 and is all set to defend the seat.
Meanwhile Priyanka’s decision not to contest the election can add to the discomfiture of the party.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google is on the verge of reaching billionaire status. He became the CEO of Google in 2015 and since then the stocks have surged to more than 400 %

Sundar Pichai grew up in Chennai in a two room apartment. His father was an electrical engineer with the British conglomerate GEC. He excelled in school and joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharag[pur to study engineering. He later won a scholarship to Stanford University and his father had to withdraw $1000 from the family savings to cover the cost for Pichai’s airfare and other expenses.
He earned an advanced degree at the Pennsylvania University and joined Google in 2004 as a product manager. He was selected to become CEO by co-founder Larry Page in 2015.He was an early adopter of artificial intelligence.
His near billionaire status is due to Google’s stock surge under his dynamic leadership since 2015.

TN CM MK Stalin presents Rs 75 lakh to D. Gukesh

As a token of  recognition of chess prodigy D. Gukesh becoming the youngest ever winner of the FIDE Candidates Tournament held in Toronto, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin presented him with a cheque for Rs 75 lakh on Sunday April 28th, 2024.

The cheque was personally handed over to Gukesh by CM Stalin at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Chennai in the presence of the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin. Gukesh’s parents were also present.
Gukesh was also presented with a citation and a shawl.  This gesture proves that the Tamil Nadu government nurtures and supports talented individuals in various fields, including sports and games.
Prior to this, the Tamil Nadu government had granted Rs 15 lakh to Gukesh in recognition of his achievements. His victory is a big inspiration to aspiring chess players in the country.

Meet the beautiful and brilliant Dr. Bhuvaneshwari Rajendran, Senior Consultant in Neurology and Neurophysiology at Kauvery Hospital, Chennai.  Born in Chennai to Rajendran and Pushpa, she schooled in La Chatelain Junior College in Valasaravakkam where she excelled not only in academics but also in every extracurricular activity right from dance and elocution to sports. She won numerous prizes in inter school dance and elocution competitions. Being the captain of her school throwball and volleyball teams, she participated in many  inter school matches and her team came out victorious in many matches under her dynamic leadership.

Though her school followed a CBSE curriculum, she said that no pressure was put on the students to excel only in academics. On the other hand, they were encouraged to take part and excel in multiple extracurricular activities.

Her paternal grandfather was an anaesthetic in the army. Her maternal grandfather was an entrepreneur and the founder of Eyetex. She fondly remembers her maternal grandmother who had a lot of health issues and was in and out of hospitals. Her mother was the only daughter and had the responsibility to care for her and deal with many doctors. It was at this point of time that her passion for medicine and neurology was ignited.

With this goal in mind, she studied medicine in Bangalore and came to Madras Medical College to do her internship. During this period, her marriage was arranged and she tied the knot with Vijay who is from the IT industry.

Dr.Bhuvana travelled with her husband to the UK after marriage where she did her training and higher education and specialized in neurology. Her impressive array of qualifications include an MBBS, MRCP (UK), CCT (UK), PG Diploma in Neurology from UCL London and a prestigious FRCP (UK) designation.

The couple is blessed with a daughter Vidya who has completed BA in journalism and is a young entrepreneur.

After her return to India in 2012, Dr. Bhuvana joined Global Hospital for a couple of years. She later joined Kauvery Hospital in May 2014 and has almost completed a decade with them. She is currently the Senior Consultant in Neurology and Neurophysiology and thoroughly enjoys her work and appreciates the friendly environment there.

She also consults at her private clinic in the evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The other evenings are spent bonding with her family members as she firmly believes in work life balance.

She also specializes in Neuromuscular disorders, Epilepsy, Sleep Medicine and Stroke and is one of the few specialists in the country who have expertise to perform neurophysiological procedures for both children and adults.

She has authored many papers in peer reviewed journals and penned chapters for text books too.

Dr Bhuvana has won many awards for her exceptional work. Some of them are the Prominent Doctors Award in Neurology-Silicon India in 2023, Joint runner for best IMA Secretary in 2021, Mayan award for clinical and charity work in 2022, Women health care leader-The Golden AIM award in 2022, Freedom from Cancer Trust award for service in 2021 and the Innovative Healthcare Leadership Award-Neurology by the Golden AIM Awards in 2020.

She is currently the Secretary of the Indian Medical Association, Kauvery Chapter. She was a former President of Rotary Club of Madras Temple City, for the period 2018-2019.

Dr. Bhuvana is also into social work and is the founder and trustee of ‘’Pushpam Trust’’ that supports medical treatment as well as education for the underprivileged.

Filled with zest for life, she has multiple hobbies but the main ones are reading, travelling and gardening. Being an avid reader, she likes to read all genres especially non-fiction and autobiographies.

Though she is not much of a movie person, her favourite actors are Kamal Haasan and Vijay Sethupathy for the versatile roles they play. She discloses that Kamal is the favourite actor of her entire family.

Basically Dr. Bhuvana is an extrovert and likes meeting new people. She is part of a Rotary Club and is actively involved in all their activities both social and charitable.

She is a great fan of tennis and cricket and follows both sports very closely. She also gets to watch the ongoing IPL matches.

Dr. Bhuvana is a vegetarian and loves to spend time cooking. She likes to try out all types of cuisines. Her favourite food ranges from pasta to momos with dips, mediterranean cuisine and the humble curd rice and rasam.

She unwinds after a hard day’s work by listening to music and chatting with her mother. She relishes any good music whether it is classical, western or Tamil movie songs. She advocates the importance for every individual to pursue a hobby in order to unwind and get recharged for the next day.

She is a typical global citizen and when it comes to outfits, she is comfortable with both western and Indian outfits and always dresses for the occasion besides carrying them off in style.

Dr. Bhuvana is one of the leading neurologists in India and strives to make an emotional connect with her patients and their family members, which according to her makes a big difference. She puts in her hundred percent in everything she does and goes that extra mile which ultimately pays rich dividends. To many patients and their families, she is a God send.

Rahul Gandhi calls Wayanad the most beautiful place on earth

Rahul Gandhi said that he considers Wayanad to be the most beautiful place on the earth.This beautiful hill district is a haven for nature lovers. He wishes to invite his mother Sonia Gandhi to visit and stay there for a few days.

He made this statement while addressing party workers at a roadshow in Sultan Bathery in Wayanad in Kerala. He also stated that each time he visits the place, he feels like he is coming home.
Rahul is in Wayanad to launch the second phase of his election campaign. Earlier this month he filed his nomination papers from there and held a massive roadshow.
It may be recalled that he won the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad with a record margin of 4,31,770 votes.
This year, polling for the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala will be held on April 26th.

World’s first ”Miss AI” contest to be held

The world’s first ”Miss AI” beauty pageant with a prize money of $20,000 will be held. This pageant will witness AI generated ladies compete before a panel of judges including two AI influencers.

Contestants will be judged based on their looks and the technical skills that went into their creation. The AI influencers social clout will be assessed based on their engagement numbers with fans, rate of growth of audience and utilisation of platforms according to a release from World AI Creator Awards (WAICA)
This is the first time such a pageant is being held and more are being planned on fashion diversity and computer generated men.
It will also feature Fanvue, a subscription based platform that hosts virtual models as a partner of WAICA.
The winner of Miss AI will get $5,000 in cash. The second and third place winners will also receive cash prizes. The winners will be announced on May 10th and an online awards ceremony will be held later on.

SC refuses early hearing of Arvind Kejriwal’s petition

The Supreme Court refused an early hearing petition of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on corruption charges linked to the alleged liquor policy scam.

The Supreme Court gave the Enforcement Directorate time till  April 27th to file a counter to the petition filed by the Delhi Chief Minister. This is a blow to Kejriwal and he will not be able to campaign for his Aam Aadmi Party.
Last week, the Delhi High Court rejected the petition for early hearing after the Enforcement Directorate had submitted enough material to show that the Chief Minister was involved in forming the now scrapped liquor policy and demanding bribes of Rs 100 crore.
The Supreme Court wanted to know why the ED had failed to recover any of the alleged bribe money so far.

Ram Charan conferred honorary doctorate by Vels University

Former PM Manmohan Singh retires from Rajya Sabha

Former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh will  retire from the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday after a long innings of 33 years. He is the first PM outside the Nehru-Gandhi family to complete two full terms of PM.

The 91 year old Manmohan Singh was India’s only Sikh PM. He was the architect of India’s economic liberalisation. He brought about a number of reforms including Direct Benefit Transfer and also launched Aadhar.
He entered the Upper House in October 1991 just four months after he became the Union Finance Minister in June 1991. He is considered to be one of the best parliamentary speakers. He represented Assam for five terms in the Rajya Sabha and later represented Rajasthan in 2019.
