The scientist behind Britain’s first vaccine, has declared that the world is moving a step closer to ending the coronavirus pandemic. Trials have been successful and the AstraZeneca vaccine could protect 90% of the people. This development comes as a big relief to the UK government which has invested heavily and has ordered 100m doses sufficient for the whole adult population.
Matt Hancock, health secretary said that the rollout will come in the new year. The good news is that the vaccine is low cost and costs just £3 per dose. It also does not require to be shipped or stored in ultra cold freezers. It works well with both the young and the old. Eleanor Riley, a Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Edinburgh said that this is excellent news as it is cheap to produce, easy to distribute and most importantly safe as well.
