Notre-Dame to be rebuilt

Amidst an outpour of public support for rebuilding the Notre-Dame one of Europe’s most iconic monuments, pledges from French billionaires and public houses reached 700 million euros. President Emmanuel Macron has promised that the monument would be restored after it’s spire and roof collapsed on Monday night. French luxury group Kering  whose brands include Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci kick started the campaign by promising 100 million euros.

Not to be left behind, the richest man of France, Bernard Arnault has promised 200 million euros. The L’Oreal cosmetics group and it’s founders the Bettencourt family has also offered 200 million euros. French oil giant Total has offered 100 million euros. Air France has made an offer of free flights to experts brought in to help with the renovation while Saint Gobain the glass giant has promised help to restore the stained glass windows which exploded in the fire.
