Teachers and students have a good reason to rejoice as the State government has withdrawn their plans of holding public exams for classes 5 and 8. This was announced by the Minister for School Education , K. A. Sengottiyan as the government had received several representations from the public requesting for cancellation of the public exams.

As of now, the existing system will continue and there will be regular annual exams conducted by the schools at the end of the academic year. The announcement of the government in September regarding holding of exams for classes 5 and 8 drew sharp criticism from all quarters. Activists, teachers and academicians said that it would add to the burden and stress out the students. DMK President M.K. Stalin welcomed the move for cancellation and so did PMK leader S.Ramadoss.
