New CJ sworn in

Justice Vijaya Tahilramani was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Madras High Court by Governor Banwarilal Purohit at a ceremony in the Raj Bhavan yesterday. The Governor administered the oath of office. Justice Tahilramani was the acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

She succeeds Justice Indira Banerjee who has been elevated to the Supreme Court. She is the third woman Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Also present at the swearing in ceremony were the Chief Minister K Palaniswami, deputy CM O.Paneerselvam, judges of the Madras High Court,11 Judges from the Bombay High Court, outgoing Chief Justice Indira Banerjee, Ministers and Police Officials.
