Navjot Singh Sidhu was sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court in a 1988 road rage case in which a 65 year old man died. He is likely to surrender before a court in Patiala today. A number of Congress leaders and supporters turned up at his residence in Patiala this morning.

The Supreme Court on Thursday sentenced Sidhu to one year rigorous imprisonment on the ground that any undue sympathy to impose an inadequate sentence would do more harm to the judicial system and would undermine the confidence of the public in the efficacy of law.
Sidhu stated that he would submit to law. Meanwhile the family of Gurnam Singh who died in the 1988 incident said that they were grateful to God as they finally got justice after a long period of 34 years.
