Movement named Penn launched in Chennai

Five Chennaites from different backgrounds have come together to launch a movement called Penn. V.S. Sridhar, a corporate executive, ‘Krav Maga’ SreeRam, consultant to TN Police, Anand, technocrat, Sriram Sharma, director, music composer and playwright and Advocate Swarnalatha Mahesh are the people behind the movement. It aims to create a safe environment for women and tackle crimes against women at various levels. There are 6 agendas which relate to the individual, community, governance, law enforcement and judicial implementation and policy making.

The movement was launched on the 8th of February at Narada Gana Sabha by ADGP, M.Ravi, Asst Commissioner of Commercial Tax, G. Lakshmi Priya, Director of Kalakshetra, Revathy Ramachandran and actress Revathi. A dance cum drama based on the life of Velu Nachiyar, a Tamil Queen who fought against the British rule was staged highlighting her valour.
Plans are on to educate women on the aspects of prevention of crime, online safety and self defense techniques. Students from schools and colleges will be targeted to create awareness.
