More protests against CAA and NRC

Chennai witnessed a 37 kms human chain of about 1.5 lakh people protesting against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens. People joined hands on arterial roads from Tiruvottiyur to Tambaram.
Cadres of various political parties, civil rights activists as well as students took part in the protests called by the Tamilnadu Platform for People’s Unity. Many people held hands and shouted slogans to express their solidarity and support to the movement against the CAA. Fathima Muzaffer, the Convenor of the Federation of Tamilnadu Muslim Women said that “we want to save the Constitution and the democratic nature of the country. The government in power should not change the secular fabric of our nation by bringing in the new law.” Some of the activists have been detained by the police.
