The north east monsoon which brings major share of yearly rainfall to the State will set in today. The overcast sky in Chennai yesterday promised the much needed rain. S.Balachandran,Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre said that we had received scattered rainfall that covered only 40% of the region and that we needed widespread rains to cover at least 75% of the State to declare the onset of the monsoon.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, conditions are favourable for the onset of the monsoon today and that rainfall is likely to extend to most parts of the State. People are anticipating s good monsoon to tide over the water crisis after a year of drought.
