Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh came in a wheelchair to cast his vote in the presidential election. Voting took place by secret ballot in Parliament and in state legislatures across the country yesterday to elect a new President of India.

The two main contenders for the post are Droupadi Murmu, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate and the opposition candidate is Yashwant Sinha. Manmohan Singh had taken leave for the winter session of Parliament last year for health reasons. He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi for weakness following a fever. He was discharged from hospital on October 31.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Manmohan Singh had cast their votes in the very first hour of voting. Many people wished Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery and commented that he was a real inspiration.
