The new Sindhudurg Airport is going to get inaugurated on March 5, 2019, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu. Much to everyone’s delight, the Sindhudurg Airport is going to be the gateway to all the popular tourist sites in the Sindhudurg region. The 520 cr airport is located along the Konkan Coast and is close to some of the best tourist locations of Maharashtra.

The Tarkali Beach, for example, is only about 20 km away from the airport, and so is the very old Sindhudurg Fort. Luckily, this area is also pretty close to Goa, particularly North Goa. So you can pretty much drive from Sindhudurg Airport to North Goa at ease, as the distance is somewhere in the ballpark of 60 km. Furthermore, after the inauguration of the airport, the government is looking to start a fishing industry, alongside a horticulture cargo hub in the Sindhudurg region.

This would definitely add to the charm of the region, and attract even more tourists. In fact, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation has approved INR 65 cr to start a submarine adventure for tourist, which would be the first of its kind in the country. It is not clear as to which airlines to fly to and from the airport, and from which parts of the country, but low-cost carriers are expected. The runway is 2500 m long and can fit a narrow body aircraft. The airport’s terminal building can hold 400 passengers, so not many flights are expected to operate from the airport.
