Grandmaster and former World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen’s world famous jeans from the 2024 World Rapid Championship have been sold at an auction for $36,100. The proceeds will go for charity.

The highest bid was from an anonymous person who secured the size 32 regular fit Corneliani jeans. There were many bids and the top offer went up to $36,100 from $14,200. The bidder will have to shell out an additional amount of $74 towards shipping costs.
The Italian luxury brand of jeans sells between $300 to $500. It became world famou after Carlsen was instructed by the tournament arbiters, to change his jeans and wear a different pair of pants to comply with the event’s dress code. Carlsen refused to do so. He was fined $200 and later banned from playing the final round of the day.
Carlsen disclosed that the auction was a fun idea and that it will go to charity. The proceeds of the auction will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSSA), a non profit organization dedicated to help children realize their potential through mentorship and support.
