The Madras High Court set aside the acquisition of Veda Nilayam- the residence of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa for converting it into a memorial. The previous AIADMK government had acquired the property and had plans to convert it into a memorial.
The Court directed the government to hand over the property to Jayalalithaa’s niece and nephew, Deepa and Deepak within three weeks. The court wanted to know why there should be two memorials for the former CM.

Deepa and Deepak, the niece and nephew of Jayalalithaa had challenged the state government notification to convert the residence into a memorial. They contended that the property was acquired in such a hasty manner without getting consent of the family members
