According to a report, footballer Lionel Messi will be retiring after the FIFA World Cup and the finals will be his final game for Argentina. The 35 year old has scored five goals in the tournament so far and has become the leading goalscorer for Argentina in World Cups by surpassing the ten goal record held by Gabriel Batistuta. Messi has scored 11 World Cup goals so far.

Team Argentina arrived in Qatar as one of the tournament favourites but they lost their opening game against Saudi Arabia 1-2. They were unbeaten in 36 matches before this loss. They defeated Croatia in the semi-final. The two-time champions will now take on either Morocco or holders France in the final that will be played at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.
