Laxmi’s dream as a child was to become a pilot and she worked tirelessly to achieve her dream with motivation from her parents, especially her father.
She was one among the several pilots who volunteered for the Vande Bharat mission which began in May 2020 to evacuate Indians stranded abroad due to the restrictions imposed because of the ongoing pandemic.

Laxmi flew three flights a month during the peak pandemic period in order to rescue many Indians who were stranded abroad.
Laxmi, who is a pilot with Air India, recalls that her father is one of her biggest cheerleaders. Though her parents were concerned about her going on rescue missions during this pandemic time, she convinced them about the importance of the mission. Her first rescue flight was to Shanghai in China to bring back all the Indians stranded there.
