Kerala women to drive government vehicles

The government of Kerala in a bid to create gender equality, has allowed women to be appointed as drivers in government departments and public sector undertakings. The rules will be amended accordingly. This is the first time that a state government has taken such a decision.

Chief Minister Pinarayi  Vijayan said that the government had earlier given representation to women in the Fire and Rescue Department and now they will be giving them gender equality on the roads. The Kerala State Women Development Corporation will start implementing the project. They will start by giving training to women to obtain  commercial driving licenses. This decision of the Kerala government has been welcomed by sections of society.
