Neelamani N.Raju has become the first woman officer to head the State Police force. She will hold position of Director General and Inspector General of Police. She belongs to the 1983 batch,this IPS officer took over from R.K.Dutta who retired on Tuesday.

A veteran intelligence officer with over two decades of experience with the Intelligence Bureau, she is the first woman police chief in Karnataka to head a one lakh strong uniformed force.Having achieved this feat in a male dominated force,Ms.Raju’s biggest challenge was to bring in discipline in the department. Her appointment has sent strong signals of gender equality and woman empowerment. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, she served in Karnataka for 10 years before she left on a Central deputation in 1993.
