US Vice President elect Kamala Harris received her shot of Covid vaccine live on television and has urged public trust in the process. She wore a mask and received her two shots at the United Medical Center, located in an area of Washington DC that has a large number of African-American population. While people belonging to this community have had a lot of illness related to the coronavirus, many of them are reluctant to get vaccinated.

Kamala Harris received the vaccine manufactured by US firm Moderna and said that she wants to remind people that they have trusted sources of help and that is where they will be able to get the vaccine. Her husband Doug Emhoff will also receive the vaccine. Harris will be the first black as well as the first Indian-American woman to be sworn in as Vice President on January 20th, 2021. Many public officials also were vaccinated on camera to overcome public skepticism and to convince those in doubt that immunizations are vital to returning to a semblance of normality in the months ahead. President elect Joe Biden received his shot of the vaccine live on television on the 21st of December. Outgoing President Donald Trump who was hospitalized with the virus in the month of October is yet to receive his shot of the vaccine. According to figures from the John Hopkins University, the United States has registered about 19.3 million cases and more than 335,000 deaths related to the virus which are both the highest in the world.
