Jacinda Ardern to resign as PM next month

0

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has decided to resign from her post in February. This announcement has come as a shock for many. She held back her tears and said that her five and a half years as Prime Minister was tough and that she had no more in the tank to continue leading the country but there were colleagues who could take over from her.

Voting for a new leader in the ruling Labour Party will take place on Sunday and the new leader will be Prime Minister until the next general election to be held on October 14 this year.
Jacinda Ardern was the youngest Prime Minister in 2017 when she was elected at the young age of 37. She led the Labour Party to a landslide victory in 2020. She also became the second elected world leader to give birth while in office. Her daughter will start school next year.
